Important to Know

Eligibility

  • Cannot be behind on rent from previous month

  • Household Income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Family Income (AMFI)


  • Live in Hays County

  • Be willing to participate in a Self-Sufficiency Plan

 

 

 

Timeline

  • 2025 Applications open January 15th - February 13th

  • Applicants will be placed on a waiting list beginning February 14th.

  • Applicants will be chosen randomly through a lottery system.

  • Once chosen a case manager will contact the applicant to collect remaining documentation and start the rental assistance process

Cost

  • Once chosen for the TBRA Program and after housing is secured, the amount paid towards rent by the client and by the agency will be determined by the household's income.

 






How to Apply

Gather required documents

You’re going to need the following documents:

  • Social Security cards for all members of the household.

  • Proof of identity for 18 and older (one of the following):
         Driver's License
         Military ID
         State-Issued ID

  • Proof of Citizenship for all members of household (one of the following):
         U.S. Birth Certificate
         U.S. Citizen Card
         U.S. Passport
         Permanent Resident Card

  • Proof of Income for 18 and older from the last 30 days you sign this application

    Wait to hear back from us
    • Once we receive your application, you’ll be added to our wait list.

    • Assistance will be given based on a lottery system.after applications close on February 13th

    • If selected after the applications close on February 13th a Case Manager will reach out via phone, email and/or mail.

    Work with a Case Manager
    • If selected, a case manager will work with you to collect the remaining documentation needed and together you will work on a self-sufficiency plan.

    Get rental assistance
    Once your self-sufficiency plan is developed, and you've located housing, your case manager will need to inspect the unit and develop an agreement with your landlord.  If everything is approved, you can begin to receive rental assistance up to 24 months.  The amount you pay and the amount Community Action pays will be determined by your household income.
